  1. Boris Christoff is, very possibly the best exponent of the tortured Tsar since Chaliapin. His portrayal is sonorous, rich and profound, although I do agree that he probably should not have been used for the roles of Pimen and Varlaam. The rest of the cast is fine, but this is, after all, Boris' opera/5(15).
  2. Tchaikovsky Eugene Onegin: This is the best recording of this opera led by Eugene Belov as Onegin, Galina Vishnevskaya as Tatiana conducted by Boris Khaikin. This recording is also available on Preiser Records and on OPD Records. The sound is ex excellent for Borodin Prince Igor: It is the Rimsky- Korsakov version omitting Act /5(7).
  3. Boris' act 2 monologue is masterfully thought out, with Christoff subtly coloring his voice to convey the Tsar's growing depression and guilt. The "Farewell and Prayer" and "Death Scene" alone are worth the price of admission--Christoff's dramatic portrayal of the terrified, dying Tsar is utterly convincing.5/5(4).
  4. Misc. Notes Foliation: (iv, pp; ; , ; ; missing). Reproduced from a copyist's manuscript. The score for the original revision was pages.
  5. Mussorgsky, Boris Godunov: Soloists, Orchestra and Chorus of the English National Opera, English National Opera, London (AO) Cast: Boris Godunov – Peter Rose. Prince Shuisky –John Graham-Hall. Pimen- Brindley Sherratt. Grigory, the false Dimitri – Gregory Turay.
  6. Ironically, Pictures gets second billing on this disc. The headline event is a selection of excerpts from Boris Godunov featuring George London in the title role. You get the coronation scene, Boris' Act 2 monologue, the hallucination scene, and his farewell and death.
  7. Mussorgsky* / Soloists*, Chorus*, And Orchestra Of The Bolshoi Theater*, Moscow Conducted By Boris Khaikin / Vladislav Pyavko* • Aleksei Maslennikov • Viktor Nechipailo* • Aleksander Ognivtsev • Irina Arkipova* • Aleksei Krivchenya* - Khovanshchina 2 versions.
  8. First vinyl contains sides 1 (A) and 8 (H). Second vinyl contains sides 2 (B) and 7 (G). Third vinyl contains sides 3 (C) and 6 (F). Fourth vinyl contains sides 4 (D) and 5 (E). "The action takes place in and around Moscow in the years Composed between and , the opera was completed and orchestrated by N. Rimsky-Korsakov.
